History & Religious Importance
The Moreshwar Temple holds a special place in Hindu mythology. It is said that Lord Ganesha defeated the demon Sindhu here, riding a peacock, which gives the temple its name ‘Mayureshwar’ (Peacock Lord).
Morgaon’s temple is also considered the most important of the Ashtavinayak temples, with pilgrims traditionally starting their journey here and returning to complete the circuit. The temple’s architecture, adorned with carvings of various deities and scenes from Ganesha’s life, adds to its spiritual aura.
